Direct Wines Limited, owners of Laithwaites and The Sunday Times Wine Club brands, is the world's largest independent wine specialist, with turnover of over £200m per annum.

In operation for more than 34 years, Direct Wines is also one of the world's largest home delivery wine companies and in recent years has come to rely heavily on the Internet as a customer generation tool and sales channel.

Adactus built a scaleable E-Commerce architecture using Microsoft Commerce Server, XML and XSLT to provide for multiple brands running on a single platform.

The system is fully integrated into Direct Wines backend systems ensuring a completely automated operation covering catalogue, customer and order information.

A suite of back end tools developed by Adactus allow staff to update the web site regularly with new offers and products, as well as monitor the sales on the site.

The sites have won several major e-commerce awards including the Daily Telegraph and Sage Business Award for Best Website 2004.
